    LITTLE KNOWN SUTTER CREEK FACTS

    The town takes its name from the creek which the creek takes its name from John A. Sutter. Unable to stop the tide of gold-seekers flowing over and destroying his lands, Sutter decided to follow the call of gold, trying in vain to recoup what the Gold Rush had taken. He arrived here in 1848 with a band of Kanakas and Indians, and upon finding a likely spot began mining along the creek......Read the rest of the Story!

    HISTORIC DOWNTOWN SUTTER CREEK
    Downtown Sutter Creek has many historic buildings including the only Ratto Theatre remaining in Amador County!

    KNIGHT FOUNDRY
    Historic Knight Foundry, in Sutter Creek California, is believed to be the only remaining water powered foundry and machine shop in the United States.

    AMERICAN EXCHANGE HOTEL
    In 1867 Dr. Fifield rebuilt his hotel and named it the American Exchange Hotel. The hotel’s third story was added in 1897.

    MONTEVERDE STORE MUSEUM
    In May of 1898, J. Monteverde with son James started erection of a building on Randolph street for a grocery.
