Central Eureka Mine, Sutter Creek, Amador County

The Central Eureka Mining Company purchased the Summit Mine in 1893 for $6,000. With the exception of one year, the mine went on to operate continuously and profitably from 1895 through 1942.


When all gold mining operations was suspended by the federal government due to the war. The mine reopened in 1946, and was in operation until 1958, when it finally shut down for good.

The Central Eureka Mine being given an overhaul in 1924, including a new metal headframe.

At this time, the Central Eureka's main shaft had reached a depth of 4,500 feet, and along with its holdings at the Old Eureka, had produced 1,800,000 ounces of gold.

This property has paid monthly dividends regularly for the past eight months, including October. There are 400,000 shares in the company. Six dividends were paid at the rate of 2 ½ cents per share, aggregating $60,000, and two dividends at the rate of 2 cents per share, aggregating $16,000, making a total of $76,000.


The shaft is down to, a depth of 2000 feet, and the mine opened to tho 1860 level, from which ore is now being supplied to the mill. The company gives employment to 80 men. The mine is inexcellent shape under the able Superintendency of W.R. Thomas, who has had charge of the mine since the present company started operations.
