  • Immaculate Conception Catholic Cemetery, Sutter Creek

From Hanford St. (Hwy 49), West on North Amelia St.; corner of Amelia and Spanish Sts. park in lot.

The Immaculate Conception Catholic Church was built in 1861. The fire in 1972 destroyed much of the building, but was rebuilt utilizing the original plans. There are still interior fixtures and parts of the porch that are original.

The church is surrounded by the Immaculate Conception Cemetery. There are alot of grave sites here resulting from the mine accidents, one of whom was John Collier who died on September 5, 1873 in the "great disaster" at the Lincoln Mine.

Seventeen members of the Mahoney family are buried here. There are a large number of head stones still today of which the earliest marker being in 1858.
