After buying the 1960 Dodge from Van Pelt, we have purchased a number of engines - all rebuilt and maintained by our volunteers. Our current fire chief, who is about 65 years old, has been a volunteer firefighter in Sutter Creek since he was allowed to join at age 18. Before that, he just hung around with his dad at fire meetings and helped fight fires where needed.
He is an extraordinary mechanic and is continually tinkering with our fleet of fire engines, a tanker, and a rescue unit to keep the all humming.
Our tradition of building and maintaining our own equipment continues with a younger generation of mechanics/firefighters. The old chief will tell you that they are not as good or not as deidicated as the old guys, but the old firefighters probably said the same about him back in the early '60s.
Another photo of the Sutter Creek Fire Department's 1934 Dodge fire truck.
Because the 1934 and 1939 Dodge trucks still exist in pretty good shape, we would like to recreate the department's first Dodge from the 1920's.
Any help that you can supply us in identifying the make and model of the pickup and possible purchase of such a vehicle would be appreciated.
