The Ione Grammar School was constructed in 1882, the Grammer School was originally built by the Ione Masonic Lodge as a meeting place. This building is now home to the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
The Sacred Heart Catholic Church stands on a hill at the southern edge of Ione. It was built in 1874 under the direction of Fr. Joseph Sadoc Alemany, the first archbishop of San Francisco.
Charles Howard Park
In 1876 Ione’s Annual Picnic moved from Shakeley Hill to this location. The 100 acre park is part of an 1840 land grant and was leased to the city by the Howard Estate May 11, 1967.
Today, Howard Park is a multi-use recreational complex. Completed in January 2001 is the Ed Hughes Memorial Arena.
