Ada and Helen. J.N. and A.C. Upton, built the barn and other farm buildings on the property. Some of the logs, etc. that they used were brought down from the Perry home place at Bredgeport near Mt. Aukum.

The Upton family came as pioneers to Shenandoah Valley in 1863, led by John Dale Upton, who was born in Illinois and his wife Mahala Teeter Upton, who was born in Virginia.

One of several families of Uptons live now or have lived in the Shenandoah Valley.
