Votaw Family

One of the oldest ranches in the Shenandoah Valley and one of the most secluded is that owned by descendants of the Votaw family. Cattle are grazed among the old buildings and since the ranch does not border any road, it is seldom seen. It probably has been more than 50 years since anyone lived on the premises.

Your picture taker thought that the use off this long dormant and isolated ranch would be interesting since the pictures have a story to tell and so seldom one finds a ranch house and barn which has been allowed to languish.

The picture, top right, is of the barn, the fenced corral, the house and the hill where the remnants of a barn remain untouched.

The picture above is of the east end of the house. It is clear that the fireplace was well built of stone and if rebuilt at some new location would provide much favorable comments.

The picture to the right is of the outside of the fireplace showing the intricate stone work..
