Bell and Estey Families

When the H.F.H. ranch was acquired, the acreage included this older house and barn. There were other outbuildings not shown here. Families known to have lived here include the Henry Bells and the Donald Esteys. This home is on Bell Road, down the hill from the Gunther home and the Leslie Crain ranch home and also the Clyde Berriman house. The grape ranch and this red house are on Pigeon Creek, where it crosses Bell Road.

This special barn area for many years included a corral and yard with chutes and a weighing scale. Local farmers and others from nearby communities brought their lambs here annually for weighing. They were loaded into cattle type trucks of five layers, or floors, to haul the hundreds of lambs which had been grown here. There was usually a five deck trailer needed also. The lambs were sold for an agreed upon price for live weight. It was an annual event. The lambs were sent to special pastures for specialty feed and care before heading for final markets. Farmers wanting to increase their existing herd would normally save some lambs back or buy some special type to improve an existing herd
