In 1879 the owners added a second story over the former Mulligan bar. The tallest part of the hotel rose, in 1852, replacing a ruder log structure which was Evans and White's store and meat market by the creek.

Before the 3'rd story was added

Louisiana House, Jackson's National Hotel rose out of ashes of the Louisiana house.

 When this photograph was taken, note that the building had been widened, and out door front stairs to the second floor added.
