argonautheader

Photo of the Argonaunt mine taken between 1900 and 1910. The Argonaunt was second only to the Kennedy in size, depth and production together.

Now a four lane highway (88), than a dirt road. The wooden head frame, upper left, marks the site of the shaft which served though out the life of the mine. The smaller head frame, just right of center is the Muldoon shaft, an auxiliary shaft used for ventilation. The trussed bridge carries the tramway from shaft to dump, and the hoisting works is just below the last span of the bridge. Held up by idler wheels on towers, the cable crossed the road to the head frame.
