Our first mention goes to Larry Cenotto, who we so greatfully thank for making it possible in keeping Amador’s history alive. Also we would like to thank the Amador Archives Collection for their information.
Our second mention goes to our oldest son Bobby Ray Keeling who combine with his expertise and computer savvy, makes AmadorGold possible.
In 1994 we (my husband and I) became very intrigued of gathering information and learning more of my family’s history. With our information we started our "Denend’s Heritage."
Newton Ezra Denend, my Great Grandfather was born April 30, 1843 in Davenport, Delaware Co. New York. In 1868 Newton married Phebe A Coulter and shortly after journeyed onward to Topeka Kansas. Where they lived for 3 years having their first 3 boys. Then sometime in 1874 journeyed onward for California to the Mother Lode.
We do not know all of Newton’s ventures and what they might have endured in their journey by covered wagon in the 1800’s. But here at last Newton staked his 280 ac parcel. Which is located above Daffodil Hill, in Volcano, Ca.
And there Newton work his new found land growing oat hay, raising cattle and ventured into logging with their 12 mule team. With lumber they cut and lumber they got from around the Horn’ Great Greadpa Newton and his boys built there two story home.
Gold…we know brought many to the Mother Lode, and although Newton’s had a small gold mine on his land. It was other endeavors in that made our Great Grandfather Newton Ezra Denend a real success in life and to be rememberd and loved for the man that he was.
It is through our desires and personal ambitions that we bring to you AmadorGold Enjoy! Cheryl and Ray Herndon , Bobby Ray Keeling
